Sustainable Energy and Ecology in Upper Team

Laird Bailey proudly supported Third Revolution  Projects Development to secure planning consent for the 19.8MWp Totmonslow Solar Farm near Upper Tean, Staffordshire. Our landscape architects in Staffordshire delivered specialist landscape design to create a renewable energy hub on lower-grade pasture land, powering over 5,200 homes and businesses. This project, approved by Staffordshire Moorlands, enhances biodiversity and complements our work in Gloucestershire and Somerset.

Project Overview

The Totmonslow Solar Farm balances renewable energy with ecological benefits. Our landscape planning ensured the site supports wildlife and continued livestock grazing while generating clean energy. Working with ecologists, we designed meadow restoration and offsite mitigation areas to provide nesting and foraging habitats for birds, aligning with biodiversity enhancement goals.

Our Approach

Our landscape architects focused on sustainability:

  • Landscape Design: Integrated solar panels with meadow restoration and native hedges to preserve Staffordshire’s rural character.
  • Biodiversity Enhancement: Created offsite habitats for birds, complementing onsite disease resistant planting of trees and meadows.
  • Green Infrastructure: Developed a long-term landscape management plan to maintain ecological features throughout the project’s lifespan.
  • Sustainable Landscaping: Collaborated with engineers to incorporate climate change adaptation measures, ensuring minimal environmental impact.

Outcomes

Approved by Staffordshire Moorlands, Totmonslow Solar Farm is set for construction following planning condition discharge. It delivers renewable energy alongside thriving meadows and wildlife habitats, showcasing landscape design services UK. This project mirrors our ecological focus in Slad Valley, Gloucestershire.
